She Moved Through The Fair

Traditional

***
I once had a sweetheart I loved her right well
I loved her far better than my tongue can tell
Her parents disliked me for the want of gear
A due to all pleasure since I lost my dear
***
My young love said to me, "My mother won't mind and my father won't slight you for your lack of kind" And she stepped away from me and this she did say:

It will not be long, love, till our wedding day"

***
As she went away from me and she moved through the fair
And fondly I watched her move here and move there
And then she turned homeward with one star awake
Like the swan in the evening move over the lake
***
I dreamed last night that my love came in
She came in so easy her feet made no din
She came stepping up to me and this she did say
It will not be long love til our wedding day
